Global Head Islamic Capital Markets

 

Dr. Sayd Farook is responsible for leading the Islamic markets value propositions for the Thomson Reuters group, providing knowledge and information services to governments and businesses to execute their strategies related to Islamic markets.

 

Dr. Sayd Farook's focus in Thomson Reuters has been the intersection of technology, financial services, media and intelligence to produce actionable results across the Islamic markets from high street Sukuk to main street SMEs.

 

Before joining Thomson Reuters, in May 2010, Sayd was responsible for structuring and legal advisory at Dar Al Istithmar, a boutique Islamic Finance advisory firm based in Oxford, UK.

 

Prior to this, he led the growth and innovation strategy at the Centre for Islamic Finance at the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance. This included strategy formulation, sourcing funds, planning and execution.

 

Sayd regularly consults and advises standard setters such as Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) on their standards and professional education and sits on the editorial advisory board for two prominent blind peer reviewed academic journals.

 

Dr. Farook remains actively engaged in the Islamic Finance industry, through structuring Shari’a compliant transactions and products, conference contributions, post doctoral research/supervision/publishing and drafting of standards/preparing studies for infrastructure institutions.

 

Sayd holds two First Class Honors’ University degrees in Law and Business and a PhD in Financial Economics, with a special focus on Islamic banking, from the University of Technology Sydney.
